Beginner Boxing Classes in Pickering

You don't need to know a single thing about boxing to walk through our doors. Brass Knuckles Fight Klub runs beginner-friendly group classes in Pickering where total first-timers get coached from the very first hand-wrap. Real boxing, real coaching, zero ego.

You Don't Need Any Experience

Most people who show up at BKFK have never boxed a day in their life. That's exactly who these classes are built for. You won't be thrown to the wolves, you won't be expected to keep up with seasoned fighters, and nobody is going to make you feel out of place for being new. Our adult group classes mix all levels in the same room, and the coaching meets you where you are. The gym is gritty and real, but the room is welcoming. No intimidation, no posturing, no "earn your spot" attitude. Just people learning to box, side by side. If you've been telling yourself you're "not in shape enough" or "too old" or "too uncoordinated" to start, that's the noise we hear every week from people who now train like regulars. The only requirement is that you show up. Here's how to start boxing if you want the full breakdown first.

Your First Few Classes

Your first class starts the moment you walk in. A coach gets you wrapped, shows you a basic stance, and walks you through how to throw and land a clean jab without hurting your wrist or your shoulder. From there you'll work the heavy bags, drill footwork, and get your heart rate up. Expect to sweat, expect to feel a little awkward, and expect that to fade fast. Over your first few sessions, the movements stop feeling foreign and start feeling like yours. You'll begin to chain punches together, find your rhythm on the bag, and understand why boxers love this so much. There is no sparring required, ever. Getting hit is not part of the beginner experience and never will be unless you specifically choose to go there down the road. Read exactly what to expect on your first day so you walk in knowing the drill.

What You'll Learn

Boxing is a skill, and we teach it like one. In your beginner classes you'll build the real fundamentals that every fighter is made of:

  • Stance and footwork — how to stand, move, and stay balanced
  • The jab and the cross — your first two punches, thrown clean and correct
  • Hooks and uppercuts — added once the basics click
  • Defense — guard, slips, and head movement
  • Conditioning — the engine that makes all of it work

This isn't a cardio class with gloves on. You're learning to actually box, with technique that holds up. The fitness is a byproduct of doing it right, and it's a serious one.

Gear (We've Got You)

First-timers always ask what to bring. The honest answer: yourself, and not much else. We provide gloves and bags, so you don't need to drop money on equipment before you even know you like it. Wear comfortable workout clothes and proper athletic shoes, bring water, and that's it. Hand wraps are worth picking up once you're hooked, but a coach will sort you out for your first sessions. No need to look the part, no need to "get ready" before getting started. Show up as you are and we'll handle the rest. When you're ready to make it a habit, classes run throughout the week, mornings and evenings. Check the class schedule and find a time that fits.

Frequently Asked Questions

I've never boxed before. Will I be lost?

No. Our beginner-friendly group classes are built for people with zero experience. A coach wraps your hands, teaches you a proper stance, and walks you through your first punches step by step. You'll mix in with all levels, but the coaching meets you exactly where you are.

Do I have to spar or get hit?

Never. Sparring is not part of the beginner experience and is never required. You'll work bags, pads, footwork, and conditioning. If you ever want to spar down the road, that's your choice — but it's completely optional.

Do I need my own gloves and gear?

No. We provide gloves and bags. Just wear comfortable workout clothes and athletic shoes and bring water. Once you're training regularly, hand wraps are a good cheap pickup, but you don't need anything to walk in for your first class.
